The third grade students have finished up another year of art! They will now head onto drama and then music! See you in 4th grade!
in art, we learned about the artist Jackson Pollock. He was an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was well known for his unique style of drip painting. Using the Chromebooks, we went to a really neat interactive website where we could create our own virtual drip paintings. The link for the webpage can be found at: www.drips.nalindesign.com After looking at Jackson Pollock on the computer and doing an online Jackson Pollock paint program we created our own kinetic paintings. We placed paper in trays and used marbles dipped in paint to create abstract funky designs. You could use one, two or three marbles at once! 26.B.2d Visual Arts: Demonstrate knowledge and skills to create works of visual art using problem solving, observing, designing, sketching and constructing.
26.A.2e Visual Arts: Describe the relationships among media, tools/technology and processes. The third graders created beautiful spring flower paintings this week in art. We started by reviewing positive and negative space. We then created our moon by tracing a circle and only coloring in the negative space around it. The next day we discussed organic and geometric shapes/lines. We decided that our trees should have organic free flowing lines for branches to make it look more realistic. after painting our tree and branches, we added flower buds using q-tips and paint. They turned out beautiful! 25.A.1d Visual Arts: Identify the elements of line, shape, space, color and texture; the principles of repetition and pattern; and the expressive qualities of mood, emotion and pictorial representation.
Now that we know about the color wheel we moved onto learning about complementary colors. Complementary colors are opposite colors on the color wheel. They contrast each other the most. We then made a neat complementary color design by tracing our hands and coloring in different portions using complementary colored crayons. 25.A.1d Visual Arts: Identify the elements of line, shape, space, color and texture; the principles of repetition and pattern; and the expressive qualities of mood, emotion and pictorial representation.
The Third grade students are learning about the color wheel. We looked at primary, secondary and intermediate colors. We then began to create a color wheel using watercolor paints. We had to pay special attention to the order of the colors when gluing them down. 25.A.1d Visual Arts: Identify the elements of line, shape, space, color and texture; the principles of repetition and pattern; and the expressive qualities of mood, emotion and pictorial representation.
