In art we looked at abstract painting and talked about how the colors used within them evoke different emotions. We then chose different colored crayons and matched them up with the emotion we felt they best represented. We also drew an abstract picture showing the emotions we felt at the moment. 25.A.2d Visual Arts: Identify and describe the elements of 2- and 3-dimensional space, figure ground, value and form; the principles of rhythm, size, proportion and composition; and the expressive qualities of symbol and story.

The 4th graders are gearing up for the future Boneyard Arts Festival! The festival isn't until March, but the 4th graders will be in drama during that time. We are going to be creating texture designs to display at The Urbana Free Library. We are incorporating pattern and value into our designs. Each student will have a unique design on display! 26.B.2d Visual Arts: Demonstrate knowledge and skills to create works of visual art using problem solving, observing, designing, sketching and constructing.

We placed paper in trays and used marbles dipped in paint to create abstract funky designs. You could use one, two or three marbles at once! 26.B.2d Visual Arts: Demonstrate knowledge and skills to create works of visual art using problem solving, observing, designing, sketching and constructing.
Today we learned about the artist Jackson Pollock. He was an influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was well known for his unique style of drip painting. Using the Chromebooks, we went to a really neat interactive website where we could create our own virtual drip paintings. Next week, we will be making our own real life abstract drip paintings!
