In art we are using the Chromebooks to explore all sorts of optical illusions. Some we can even manipulate and change different elements of. You can follow along at www.michaelbach.de/ot . In art we are learning about value. We practiced by doing some simple value scales using colored pencils. In each box we gradually shaded the box a lighter hue until we reached white. Once we finished that we began a value scale design using our hands to divide our paper into sections. Each section will display a small value scale. While some students are finishing up their optical art paintings the rest of the class is reviewing line drawing techniques and applying these techniques to draw three dimensional forms. After everyone is done with their paintings our plan is to explore other types of optical art on the internet. In art we looked at the artwork of artist Bridget Riley who is famous for her optical art. Optical art plays tricks on the eye. We began our own optical art designs. Following a precise pattern is important for the painting to work effectively!
At the very end of the 4th grade we learned about 1 point perspective in art. We learned how to draw a city street using one point perspective. This year we are starting off with two point perspective! We will be creating another cityscape but this time, from the angle of a corner view. ![]() This year the 5th grade students will be creating one or two point perspective drawings to submit to the Boneyard Arts Festival. We had a quick review of the two types of perspective drawings and the students chose what style they wanted to use for their drawing. We used color pencils after our initial sketch was completed. |
